Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Lessonspace Profile

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security to your Lessonspace account.

Protect your Lessonspace account by enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). You can choose from several authentication methods, including a passkey, hardware security key, or an authenticator app.

To get started, go to ProfileTwo-Factor Authentication.

Click Add Authentication Method to choose how you'd like to secure your account. You'll see three authentication options – each explained in more detail below.

Add a Passkey

Passkeys provide a fast and secure way to sign in using your device's built-in authentication, such as Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello. You will be prompted to verify your identity using your device's biometric authentication.

  1. Go to Profile → Two-Factor Authentication.

  2. Click Add Authentication Method.

  3. Select Passkey then Start Registration.

  4. Follow the prompts to create and save your passkey on your device.

Add a Hardware Key

A hardware key is a physical device (such as a YubiKey) that you use to verify your identity during sign-in.

  1. Go to Profile → Two-Factor Authentication.

  2. Click Add Authentication Method.

  3. Select Hardware Key.

  4. Insert or tap your security key and follow the on-screen instructions.

Add an Authenticator App

Use an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy, to generate one-time verification codes.

  1. Go to ProfileTwo-Factor Authentication.

  2. Click Add Authentication Method.

  3. Select Authenticator App.

  4. Scan the QR code using an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy.

  5. Enter the verification code generated by the app to complete setup.

Remove an Authentication Method

You can remove a two-factor authentication method at any time. Go to ProfileTwo-Factor Authentication, then click Remove next to the authentication method you'd like to delete.

FAQ

Why should I enable 2FA?

2FA adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a second verification step when you sign in.

Which authentication method should I choose?

For most users, we recommend using a passkey, as it's both the easiest to use and the most secure option. A hardware security key provides the highest level of security for those using a physical security device, while an authenticator app is a good choice if you prefer using one-time verification codes.

Do I need 2FA to generate an API key?

Yes. Two-Factor Authentication must be enabled before you can generate a Lessonspace API key.

I belong to multiple Lessonspace organizations. Do I need to set up 2FA for each one?

No. Two-Factor Authentication is linked to your Lessonspace profile, not to individual organizations. Once you've enabled 2FA, it applies to your account across all Lessonspace organizations you're a member of.

Do my tutors or students need to enable 2FA?

No. Two-Factor Authentication is optional for tutors and students. However, we recommend enabling it to help keep their Lessonspace accounts secure.
