Guide students with Leading mode
Leading Mode (the Crown icon) allows you to lock students to your view. Wherever you go in the Space, your students automatically follow, making it easy to guide lessons and keep everyone on the same page.
By default, Leading Mode is enabled for all Admin and Tutor roles during a lesson. We recommend keeping it enabled unless you have an activity where you want students to move around the Space independently.
When Leading Mode is enabled, students will follow the Leader's view:
Whiteboard - Wherever you scroll or zoom, students automatically follow. They don't need to do anything.
Tabs - Students will always be on the same tab (whiteboard, document, or code editor) as you. If Leading Mode is disabled, they can freely switch between tabs in the Space. (Note: This does not prevent students from switching to other browser tabs on their own device.)
Apps - Leaders can open apps for students to access.
Video layout and presented videos - Changes to the video layout apply to everyone in the Space. If you double-click a participant's video to present it, it will open in full screen for everyone.
Control What Students Can Edit
Disallow edits
If you don't want students to make any edits, disallow Editing and File Uploads from the Leading Mode menu (previously called Read-Only Mode). When these features are disabled, only teachers can make changes in the Space.
Prevent Tabs from Being Deleted
Right-click a whiteboard tab (for example, Whiteboard 1) and select Disallow Tab to Be Closed. Students will no longer be able to delete that tab.
Lock Images and PDFs
Select an image or PDF and click Lock to prevent students from moving, deleting, or erasing it.
Manage Participant Features
Using the Leading Mode menu, you can enable or disable participant features for everyone in the Space, giving you more control over how students interact during your lesson.
Each feature can be configured independently. For example, you can disable Reactions while keeping Raise Hand enabled so students can still ask questions.

FAQs
Why don't I have the Leading Mode option?
Leading Mode is only available to users with the Teacher or Admin role. If you think you should have access, check that:
You're signed in to your teacher or admin account.
Your role is set to Teacher or Admin.
You're opening the lesson using the correct lesson link.
If you're still unable to access Leading Mode, contact your organization administrator or our support team.
Can students view different tabs?
Yes. Disable Leading Mode to allow students to move freely around the Space and visit different tabs independently. This is useful for group work or self-paced activities.
How do I bring everyone back to my view?
Simply enable Leading Mode again. All students will immediately return to your current view in the Space.
