How to Pair a Second Device in Lessonspace

Learn how to connect a second device, such as an iPad or tablet, to your Lessonspace session.

Device Pairing lets you use two devices in the same Lessonspace session. For example, you can teach from your computer using audio and video while using an iPad with a stylus to draw, write and interact with the whiteboard.

Enable Device Pairing

Note: Device Pairing is an opt-in feature that must first be enabled by an organisation admin.

To enable Device Pairing:

  1. Log in to your Lessonspace dashboard.

  2. Go to Settings > Feature Settings.

  3. Find Pair Device and turn off Use Lessonspace Defaults.

  4. Select which roles can access the feature. We recommend enabling Device Pairing for Teachers and Admins.

Once enabled, the selected roles will see the Pair Device option in their Space.

How to pair your device

  1. Open your Lessonspace Space and click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top corner.

  2. Select Pair Device.

  3. A QR code will appear. Scan it with your second device, such as an iPad, tablet or smartphone. Alternatively, you can copy the pairing link and send it to your second device via email or instant message.

  4. Your paired device will automatically join the same Space, with a similar layout but without audio or video controls.

You can now use your second device to draw, write and interact with the whiteboard while continuing your lesson on your main device. This is what it'll look like:

Tip: We recommend pairing a touchscreen device with a stylus, such as an iPad with an Apple Pencil, for a more natural writing and drawing experience.

FAQ

Does pairing a second device count as an additional participant?

No. Your paired device shares the same user ID as your main device, so it doesn't count as an additional participant or incur additional billable time.

How long is a device pairing link valid?

Device pairing links are valid for 24 hours. After that, you'll need to generate a new pairing link.

Can I use my computer and iPad at the same time?

Yes! You can continue using your computer for audio and video while using your iPad or tablet to draw, write and interact with the whiteboard.

Will my paired device have audio and video?

No. Your paired device doesn't have audio or video controls. You'll continue using your main device for audio and video during the lesson.

Why can't I see the Pair Device option?

Device Pairing must first be enabled by your organization admin. If you can't see the option in your Space, ask your admin to check Settings > Feature Settings > Pair Device and ensure your role has permission to use it.
